THE NGAMANI SHOW: WHERE WE MARK ANOTHER YEAR AROUND THE SUN

Every end of May, Ngamani stops making things quietly and puts them on a runway. It's our anniversary show. One brand, one year older, one more reason to gather everyone who helped make that year happen and say it out loud, in public, with music loud enough to feel it in your chest.

It happens every end of May, timed to the brand's anniversary, and by now it isn't really a "show" in the traditional sense. It's a floor. Because woven into every Ngamani show is ballroom; the walks, the categories, the judges' panel, the whole electric grammar of a scene built by queer people, for queer people, as a way of saying I exist, and I exist loudly when the rest of the world offered no such permission. We didn't add ballroom to the show to make it more interesting. We integrated it because it's ours. Ngamani has queer roots, and an anniversary is exactly the occasion to say that plainly instead of quietly.

So the runway isn't just clothes moving down a line. It's categories. It's a panel giving out 10s, or telling you, lovingly, to go back and try again. It's a room full of people who came to be seen, not just to watch. Somewhere between the jewelry, the furniture staged like a lived-in room, and a category walk that brings the house down, the whole thing stops being a fashion show and becomes what it was always meant to be; a party with a purpose, thrown by people who know exactly what they're celebrating and who they're celebrating it with.

It's always, without exception, a good time.
